Senator SANDERS —by leave-Senator Sibraa, in response to a comment I made about Australia's most pampered bureaucracy or qango, Qantas Airways Ltd, the flying qangaroo, questioned whether my figures were accurate relating to the Continental Airlines return fare from Los Angeles to Melbourne to Los Angeles which I stated as $US467, less than half the Qantas fare for Australians going in the other direction. Senator Gietzelt replied that I was just indulging in a bit of rhetoric. It was not a bit of rhetoric. In fact, I obtained my figures from a Continental Airlines captain on a flight which I was on from Fiji to Sydney. Those cheaper fares are very much in line with the fares which have come about through deregulation in the United States. I stand by my figures.
