Senator GRIMES —During Question Time Senator Peter Baume asked me a question concerning the new child care arrangements. I understand that he suggested that a family earning $350 a week or more would get no subsidy in addition to the operational subsidy. Under the new fee relief scales, families earning this income will pay fees of $30 a week for one child in care. As the new average maximum fee will be $70 a week, the subsidy in addition to the $16 or $11 a week subsidy provided for operational subsidy will be between $30 a week and $40 a week. Senator Peter Baume's suggestion, as I understood it, that people earning $350 a week or more will not get any subsidy is in fact not so.
