Senator CRICHTON-BROWNE —My question is directed to you, Mr President. I refer you to the model display of the proposed interior of the Senate chamber in the new Parliament House, which you were gracious enough to display in your office. I understand that there are divergent views among senators as to the merits of the presently proposed design. Are you in a position to contemplate giving an undertaking to the chamber that the report of the Joint Committee on the New Parliament House will be tabled in the chamber so that senators may provide the Parliament House Construction Authority and that Committee with their views and deliberations prior to the design becoming a fait accompli?

The PRESIDENT —I can tell the honourable senator that the matter he has raised was the subject of discussion at a recent meeting of the Joint Standing Committee on the New Parliament House, when a decision was taken that a report should be prepared by the Committee secretariat for presentation to the Speaker and me with a view to the ultimate presentation of that report to both the Senate and the House of Representatives. I am given to understand that the report is now in the course of being finalised and should be made available to the Speaker and to me either this week or early next week. Subject to the Speaker and me agreeing to the contents of the report, as soon as we finalise that we will see that it is made available for the benefit of honourable senators and members of the House of Representatives.
