(Question No. 507)

Senator Jones asked the Minister representing the Minister for Aviation, upon notice, on 11 September 1985:

(1) What security checks are carried out on applicants for positions with Ansett, Trans Australia Airlines and Qantas as on-ground or in-flight staff.

(2) Who conducts such checks, the Department of Aviation or the individual airline companies involved.

(3) What criteria is set for a security clearance before applicants are approved for positions.

Senator Gietzelt —The Minister for Aviation has provided the following answer to the honourable senator's question:

(1), (2) and (3) Security checking of applicants for positions with Australian airlines is a matter for each airline.
