Senator ARCHER —Is the Minister representing the Minister for Science aware, and has he seen reports, that the United Kingdom is now contemplating withdrawal from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation? Will he advise the Senate of Australia's position at this time, the value that we achieve and the intentions of the Government on our remaining a member of that organisation?

Senator BUTTON —I have heard radio reports of the United Kingdom contemplating a change in its position. The Government has no intention of changing the current position of membership.

Opposition senators interjecting-

Senator BUTTON —We have to think of something for all honourable senators opposite. As far as I know, there are no proposals to change the present Government's attitude on this question as a result of the debate which has taken place internationally, but I will check with the Minister for Science and provide Senator Archer with a detailed answer.
