Senator Sanders asked the Minister representing the Prime Minister, upon notice, on 13 September 1985:

(1) How many letters has the Prime Minister received on the Tasmanian woodchip issue each month since January 1985.

(2) What proportion of letters have favoured changes to the present operation of the woodchip industry, for each of these months.


Senator Button —The Prime Minister has provided the following answer to the honourable senator's question:

(1) and (2) Some 1,200 representations were received during 1985 to mid-September. Approximately one-third supported, and two-thirds opposed, continuation of present woodchip industry operations. Statistics in the particular form sought in the honourable senator's question are not available.
