Senator RYAN (Minister for Education)(10.43) —Tonight Senator Reid very generously commended Minister Scholes on his decision to assist people in housing commission homes who are having difficulty in meeting their payments. I thank Senator Reid for her constructive remarks.

Senator Michael Baume made rather lengthy comments on his views about the appropriate location of a new tax office in the region which he represents. I will pass those comments on to the Treasurer (Mr Keating), who is responsible for taxation matters, and probably more appropriately to the Minister for Local Government and Administrative Services, Mr Uren, who is the Minister in charge of the allocation of government offices.

Senator Walters, on behalf of Mr Neil Robson, a Tasmanian member of parliament, has made an explanation to the Senate of his account of his use of Department of Foreign Affairs facilities for the return of some personal items to Australia. I will pass on Senator Walters's explanation to Senator Gareth Evans, the Acting Minister for Foreign Affairs, for his consideration.

Question resolved in the affirmative.

Senate adjourned at 10.44 p.m.
