Senator HILL(6.20) —I have now had a chance to peruse the amendments and they do appear to take up the suggestions of the Law Institute of Victoria, so I presume that the Institute's submission is the submission to which the Minister for Resources and Energy (Senator Gareth Evans) referred. As we believe that there is merit in that submission we will support the amendments. I would only say before sitting down that I think it is not unreasonable to request of the Minister that we have amendments of this nature a little earlier, rather than when we come into the chamber to debate a Bill. These amendments are of a non-controversial nature and presumably have been in the hands of the Attorney-General (Mr Lionel Bowen) for some months. Perhaps some greater considerations could be given to that point in the future.
