Senator Gietzelt —On 19 September 1985 (Hansard, pages 755-6) Senator Walters asked me, as Minister representing the Minister for Transport, a question without notice concerning the Tasmanian Freight Equalisation Scheme Review Authority's examination of claims for a separate category of assistance under the scheme for apples and pears.

The Minister for Transport has provided the following answer to the honourable senator's question:

At the request of the Authority the Tasmanian Apple and Pear Growers Association has provided a submission in support of its claim for a separate commodity classification for apples and pears. Arrangements have been made for representatives of the Association to meet with members of the Authority on 15 October to discuss the submission and for the Authority to then determine the advice which it considers should be given to the Minister.

While no deadline has been set for completion of the Authority's report to the Minister on this matter, the Minister has asked for its early advice. A copy of the Authority's report to the Minister will be given to the Association.
