(Question No. 480)

Senator Archer asked the Minister representing the Minister for Primary Industry, upon notice, on 22 August 1985:

Does the New Zealand Government have any embargo on the import of potatoes from any country; if so, is the embargo due to other countries being subject to the diseases `potato cyst nematode' or `potato black wart'.

Senator Walsh —The Minister for Primary Industry has provided the following answer to the honourable senator's question:

New Zealand prohibits the import of potatoes from all countries where the diseases wart, ring rot, virus diseases (eg. yellow dwarf), Colorado potato beetle and golden nematode are present.
