(Question No. 262)

Senator Bolkus asked the Minister representing the Treasurer, upon notice, on 8 May 1985:

Was a Question without Notice asked of the Minister representing the Treasurer on 15 September 1981, in respect of the taxation liabilities of the estate of Sir Robert Askin; if so, how long after such a question did the Commissioner of Taxation commence investigating the estate.

Senator Walsh —The Treasurer has provided the following answer to the honourable senator's question:

(1) Yes, the question without notice concerning the taxation affairs of the late Sir Robert Askin's estate was asked on 15 September 1981.

(2) The secrecy provisions of the income tax law prohibit the Commissioner of Taxation from divulging information about the taxation affairs of particular taxpayers. I am therefore unable to answer the second part of the honourable senator's question.
