Senator JONES —Is the Minister representing the Minister for Transport aware of concern being expressed by the Australian Railways Union regarding an allegation that at least one Australian rail authority has imported railway equipment from South Africa? Have any railway systems such as wagon axles, wheels, bogies or any other components been so imported? If so, could the Minister name the railway authority? What action will the Federal Government take, if such transactions are continuing, to put an end to them in view of the growing public realisation of the horrors taking place in South Africa as a result of that country's abhorrent apartheid policy that has resulted in hundreds if not thousands of black South Africans being cruelly murdered by the white minority regime?

Senator GIETZELT —I am not aware of the circumstances to which Senator Jones has referred.

Senator Chaney —Thank God for that!

The PRESIDENT —Order! The Minister is answering the question.

Senator GIETZELT —I represent the Minister for Transport in this chamber. In this circumstance I think it is appropriate that he should make a detailed reply to the very important question that has been raised by Senator Jones.
