Senator BOSWELL —I give notice that, on the next day of sitting, I shall move:

That the Senate-

(1) notes with concern the increasing attacks on the independent self-employed business operators through:

(a) continued changes to the tax Act, forcing independent contractors and workers into the inappropriate PAYE system,

(b) the recommendation of the Hancock report that the Australian Conciliation and Arbitration Commission be given jurisdiction over independent contractors,

(c) repeated union intimidation in the transport and associated industries to force the self-employed into union-controlled superannuation schemes,

(d) the Labor Government's capital gains tax; and

(2) condemns the Federal Government and its senior partner, the Australian Council of Trade Unions, for the continued strangling of the most productive sector of the community.
