Senator COATES —by leave-I have only today seen the Hansard for 16 September when in the adjournment debate Senator Peter Rae referred to the tabling of the annual report of the Australian Capital Territory Gaming and Liquor Authority for 1983-84. He said:

It is not just the fact that it is delayed--

that is, the tabling of the report-

that concerns me; it is also the fact that no one on the Government side appears to be interested in the qualifications which the Auditor-General has made about the unlawful investment of $4m.

Later he said:

Are we going to accept this sort of report and let it pass without comment?

Then he went on to say:

I have raised it and I shall now keep an eye on what happens in relation to it.

As Chairman of the Standing Committee on Finance and Government Operations, I assure Senator Peter Rae and the Senate that I have taken action on that matter. The Committee will examine that report, its lateness and the Auditor-General's qualifications.
