To the Honourable the President and members of the Senate in the Parliament assembled. The petition of the undersigned Australian citizens of the shire of Isis respectfully showeth that: Our region's survival largely depends on the maintenance of a viable sugar industry and your petitioners therefore humbly pray that:

The Senate, the Prime Minister and the Government of Australia take immediate action to ensure the survival and continued viability of our shire by-

immediately recognising the severe economic hardship of an increasing number of people in our community caused by the deepening crisis in the canegrowing and sugar milling industries.

providing immediate and meaningful across-the-board financial assistance to canegrowers in our region to ensure the industry's survival and the survival of jobs, small businesses and industries dependent on canegrowing and sugar milling.

taking urgent steps in the international arena to ensure that exports by Australia's vital sugar industry are able to remain competitive on world markets.

And your petitioners, as in duty bound, will ever pray.
