Senator WALSH (Minister for Finance)(9.51) —The debate has been about seven allied rural Bills, although that has not been explicity referred to by more than one speaker. I have only one comment to make on the points made during the debate. Senator Boswell claimed quite erroneously that the Government had reduced funding for agricultural research. In fact, in the three Budgets that this Government has brought down, expenditure has increased in nominal terms, with the industry contribution, from $40m to $68m. That is a nominal increase of about 70 per cent and, in real terms, an increase of something like 40 per cent. As indicated by Senator Cooney, I will be moving on behalf of the Government a number of amendments to the Rural Industries Research Bill and an associated Bill during the Committee stage.

Question resolved in the affirmative.

Bills read a second time.
