Senator WATSON —My question is directed to the Minister representing the Treasurer. Has the role of the Foreign Investment Review Board changed given the Government's soft attitude towards the admission of certain foreign enterprises into Australia free of Australian equity participation? Could the current guidelines be a hindrance to the furtherance of the accord with China? Does the Government intend to continue to implement the guidelines in an arbitrary manner? If so, should not the FIRB be abolished and replaced by a more creditable body?

Senator WALSH —As far as I know there has been no change in Government policy towards the FIRB. I will refer the question to the Treasurer to see whether he has any comments to add.
