(Question No. 337)

Senator Watson asked the Minister representing the Attorney-General, upon notice, on 30 May 1985:

Is it the Government's intention to open to Parliamentary committee scrutiny, the No. 2 account of expenditure, which is used to record expenditure on intelligence activities where the financial records relating to those activities contain information which might identify intelligence sources.

Senator Gareth Evans —The Attorney-General has provided the following answer to the honourable senator's question:

When announcing the Government decision to establish a Parliamentary Committee, the Prime Minister informed Parliament that the Government will be consulting on the details of the Committee's operation. Decisions on these details will be announced in due course.
