(Question No. 330)

Senator Watson asked the Minister representing the Prime Minister, upon notice, on 28 May 1985:

Can the Prime Minister advise whether a revolutionary new system of taxation, to which he recently referred in Hobart, has been debated in public forums.

Senator Button —The Prime Minister has provided the following answer to the honourable senator's question:

The Government has encouraged considerable community discussion about tax reform, and while in Hobart I outlined the need for such reform and the criteria by which reform proposals should be evaluated. The Government's Draft White Paper on tax reform, released on 4 June, formed the basis for discussions at the National Taxation Summit in July.
