Senator BUTTON (Leader of the Government in the Senate) —by leave-I inform the Senate that the Deputy Prime Minister and Attorney-General, Mr Bowen, is leaving today for an official visit to Europe. He will return on 13 September. In his absence I will be acting as Vice-President of the Executive Council and the Minister for Resources and Energy, Senator Evans, will be Acting Attorney-General. Mr Duffy will represent Senator Evans in the House of Representatives.

I further inform the Senate that the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr Hayden, will leave Australia tomorrow for Geneva. He will return on 30 August. Senator Evans will be also Acting Minister for Foreign Affairs during Mr Hayden's absence.

The Minister for Defence, Mr Beazley, leaves tomorrow for an official visit to the United States of America and Canada. He returns on 10 September. The Minister for Sport, Recreation and Tourism Mr John Brown, will be Acting Minister for Defence in Mr Beazley's absence.
