To the Honourable the President and members of the Senate in Parliament assembled.

The petition of the undersigned members of the Flynn Primary School community shows that there has been no increase in general education funding in the Australian Capital Territory since 1975. Despite this, the Government has announced its intention of reducing funds for Australian Capital Territory education by $54m, to be effected by a reduction in staff levels next year which will result in a loss of 115 actual positions.

The members of the Flynn Primary School community deplore the announced cuts in education funding for the Australian Capital Territory. The community considers that education should be considered as an investment in the future of Australia, rather than an expenditure.

Your petitioners therefore call on the Senate, in Parliament assembled, to oppose the proposed staff reduction and ensure that current staffing levels are maintained or improved.

And your petitioners, as in duty bound, will ever pray.
