To the Honourable the President and members of the Senate in Parliament assembled. The petition of the undersigned respectfully showeth:

That we consider the Federal Government's petrol price increase will have a widespread and adverse effect on the people of the Northern Territory and other outback areas of Australia;

That the Territory's mining and pastoral industries will suffer as a result of the price increase;

That the Territory's tourism industry will suffer as a consequence of increased air fares flowing on from the petrol price rise;

That the already high cost of freight to Territory residents, business and industry will increase even further because of the fuel factor of freight charges;

That the price increase will generally disadvantage the people of the outback, to whom petrol powered vehicles and equipment are a necessity.

Your petitioners most humbly pray that the Senate, in Parliament assembled, should urge the Federal Government to give further consideration to the people of the Northern Territory and other outback and isolated regions of Australia in the matter of this petrol price rise.

And your petitioners, as in duty bound, will ever pray.
