Senator MASON —I give notice that, on the next day of sitting, I shall move:

That the Senate-

(a) notes that the South Pacific Nuclear Free Zone Treaty signed in Rarotonga at the 1985 South Pacific Forum is the first step in making the South Pacific a truly nuclear free zone; and

(b) calls upon the Government:

(i) to take the initiative in moving at the next South Pacific Forum that additional items be added to the nuclear prohibitions under the Treaty, and

(ii) to take immediate steps to bring Australia's internal policies in relation to nuclear matters into line with both the letter and the spirit of the Treaty.
