Senator MESSNER —I give notice that, on the next day of sitting, I shall move:

That the Senate notes with concern-

(a) that the discredited Tax Summit failed to address the issue of integration of the tax and social security systems;

(b) that the same matter was ignored in the Budget;

(c) that the lack of integration forces many social security recipients to suffer the highest effective personal tax rates in Australia

(d) that this situation penalises moves towards independence by social security recipients and promotes prolonged dependence upon Commonwealth income support

and it condemns the Hawke Labor Government for its lack of action in this area.
