Senator COLSTON —I direct a question to the Minister representing the Minister for Health. I refer to a question I asked on 10 May 1984 in relation to aids for disabled people and the Minister's response that funds for this purpose had been fully committed for the current financial year. Have additional funds for this purpose now been made available? If so, what is the level of these funds, and how much will be allocated for use in Queensland?

Senator GRIMES —I remember the question asked by Senator Colston some weeks ago concerning the aids for disabled persons program. I said at the time that the States that administered the program and the funds had in fact spent all funds this year and more needed to be made available. The Government approved an additional $3.8m in funds for 1983-84 to provide an emergency boost to the program. It was my understanding that the Minister and his Department were to review the program and that the States would be advised that they would be expected to ensure that future allocations are spent in priority areas. I am unable to give Senator Colston details of the State by State breakdown, but I shall seek the information from the Minister for Health and let the honourable senator have it as soon as possible.
