Senator TATE(3.55) —by leave-I move:

That the time for the Standing Committee on Constitutional and Legal Affairs to report on the National Crime Authority Bill 1983 and the National Crime Authority (Consequential Amendments) Bill 1983 be extended to 1 May 1984.

Honourable senators will recall that when these Bills were referred to the Committee on 17 November 1983 the Committee was given until 30 April 1984 to report. Under the new pattern of sittings, 30 April occurs at the end of a three -week non-sitting period and the last sitting day before 30 April is 6 April. In order to give the Committee the time originally intended by the Senate, I have moved this motion to allow it to report on the first sitting day after 30 April.

Question resolved in the affirmative.
