Senator GARETH EVANS (Attorney-General)(10.20) —I move:

That the Bill be now read a second time.

This Bill complements the changes proposed in the Judiciary Amendment Bill (No. 2) 1984 which removes existing provisions for appeals as of right to the High Court from State Supreme Courts. The effect is to remove the right of appeal from the Full Court of the Federal Court to the High Court where the appeal involves subject matter of the value of $20,000 or more. I commend the Bill to the Senate.

Debate (on motion by Senator Collard) adjourned.
