Senator DURACK(10.20) —I object to the resumption of the debate being made an order of the day for a later hour this day. A form of this legislation was advised to me by the Attorney-General's office last Friday on the basis that there was some urgency about putting it through the Parliament this week, and I acted on that material. But the Bill that has now been introduced contains some substantial differences from the contents of the Bill about which I was advised. The matter will have to be given further consideration by the Opposition. I suggest to the Attorney-General that the ordinary adjournment for the next day of sitting would be appropriate.

The PRESIDENT —Are you leaving that as a suggestion, Senator Durack? You are not moving any amendment?

Senator Gareth Evans —For clarification, do you mean tomorrow?

Senator DURACK —I doubt whether it will be tomorrow. I processed the Bill at the Attorney-General's request on an urgent basis through the Opposition system. I do not know that we can have special meetings because he has changed it today.

The PRESIDENT —The question before the Chair is that the resumption of the debate be made an order of the day for a later hour this day.

Senator DURACK —In that case, I move:

Leave out all words after 'for' and insert 'the next day of sitting'.
