The PRESIDENT —I have received a letter from Senator Chaney proposing that a matter of public importance be submitted to the Senate for discussion, namely:

The failure of the Attorney-General to respect the role of the Parliament and to respond properly to the issues raised by the 'Age' tapes.

I call upon those senators who approve of the proposed discussion to rise in their places.

More than the number of senators required by the Standing Orders having risen in their places-
