Senator GARETH EVANS —On Friday last Senator MacGibbon asked me a question about the possible involvement of Mr O'Connor in the Richmond electorate during the Richmond by-election. Following information received from the Special Minister of State, I am able to answer the question as follows: Mr O'Connor was intermittently in the Richmond electorate for the 18 February by-election. He was there in his capacity as a member of the ministerial media group to facilitate visits by Government Ministers. Mr O'Connor helped in arrangements for visits by the Prime Minister, Mr Hawke, the Deputy Prime Minister, Mr Bowen, the Minister for Employment and Industrial Relations, Mr Willis, the Minister for Primary Industry, Mr Kerin, the Minister for Education, Senator Ryan, and the Minister for Sport, Recreation and Tourism, Mr John Brown. Mr O'Connor was in the electorate from 23 January to 26 January; 31 January to 2 February; 6 February to 9 February; and 13 February to 16 February.
