The DEPUTY PRESIDENT —As honourable senators now in the chamber were not here when I last gave some guidance, I will repeat the system under which we will handle General Business. The sessional order provides that one hour is to be set aside for the further consideration of government papers. I have been given an indication that several honourable senators wish to consider papers under this provision. To assist honourable senators in the consideration of these papers I advise that, consistent with the spirit and intention of the sessional order, papers will be considered in the following order: First, the Clerk will call on motions to take note of papers which were debated earlier today, which were postponed for further consideration during General Business. Secondly, I will call for any motions from honourable senators to take note of papers which were tabled during the week-that is, ones for which no motion was moved. When consideration of these papers is completed I will call on General Business as listed on the Senate business sheet.
