To the Honourable the President and members of the Senate in Parliament assembled. The petition of the undersigned citizens of Australia respectfully submits that: Although many occurrences of sexual harassment in the work force have been reported to various State government authorities, such as the Victorian Commission for Equal Opportunity, the real incidence of sexual intimidation in employment will not be known, or countered, until a national policy towards sexual harassment is determined and implemented.

We therefore submit that:

1. The National Committee on Discrimination in Employment and Occupation be commissioned to conduct a nation-wide study of discrimination based on sex, both in the private sector and the Public Service, with a view to advising the Government on the development of national policy.

2. The major priority of such a study should be to determine a legally- enforceable definition of sexual harassment.

3. The Minister for Employment and Industrial Relations should bring forward in Parliament legislation, arising from such a study, to outlaw discrimination and intimidation in employment based on sex.

And your petitioners as in duty bound will ever pray.
