Senator BUTTON (Leader of the Government in the Senate)(5.58) —The amendment is not acceptable to the Government. I say sincerely to Senator Harradine that we will miss him next Monday. But the fact of the matter is that if we were to rotate the public holidays in Australia, given all the public holidays that we have in various States, we would probably never sit on a Monday .

Senator Harradine —No, there are only two Mondays.

Senator BUTTON —No, that is not right. This chamber sits on a number of public holidays, including Anzac Day, I might say. I do not want to enter into any impassioned debate with Senator Harradine about this issue. I just say that we regret his personal view on the matter. I will certainly pass it on to the Government, but we do not agree to the amendment.
