Senator JACK EVANS(7.09) —Very briefly, I wish to put a bit of balance into the shouting and the tumult. I would like the opportunity next February to support in Western Australia four of the five amendment proposals. I would like to see those four amendment proposals carried. I believe that the effect in Western Australia of the Government taking the unfair action which it has taken to tell the people in Australia that this will be a distortion and that for the first time in Australia only one side of a referendum question will be put by the government of the day, and not the other side with the same publicity glare, will be to damage the case in favour of the referendum proposals. I regret that the Attorney-General has seen fit to damage the case which he purports to represent with those proposals.

Question put:

That the motion (Senator Gareth Evans's) be agreed to.
