To the Honourable the President and members of the Senate in Parliament assembled. The petition of the undersigned shows:

That the Government has announced that a gambling casino will be included in the planned new convention centre in Canberra without consulting the people of the ACT. In addition, the Government was aware that Casino proposals for the ACT were defeated in 1977, 1979 and 1981 after the then Government of the day received strong local community protest and objections from people in many parts of Australia.

Your petitioners request that the Senate, in Parliament assembled, should-

Delay any finalisation of the matter by Parliament pending the holding of a referendum in the ACT to determine the views of Canberra people on the issue.

And your petitioners as in duty bound will ever pray.
