Senator Maguire asked the Minister for Education and Youth Affairs, upon notice , on 5 October 1983:

What would be the annual cost to the Government if the age for independent eligibility under the Tertiary Education Assistance Scheme was reduced from 25 to 18.


Senator Ryan —The answer to the honourable senator's question is as follows:

It is estimated that such a change in conditions would increase the annual cost of TEAS from its current level of $227.5m to about $550m.
