Senator BUTTON (Minister for Industry and Commerce)(5.02) —I am not quite sure of the relevance of Senator Lewis's remarks to the amendment which is before the chamber but, as always, I am interested in his observations. They have a certain sense of deja vu about them, the last of the 1982 show. They are observations which might well have been made when this legislation was introduced last year by the previous Government. These provisions are regarded by the Government as interim provisions, pending the deliberation of the Hancock inquiry on these matters. I see some validity in the logical points the honourable senator made and I will personally see that the remarks he has made in the chamber today are directed to the Hancock committee of inquiry.

Question put:

That the amendment (Senator Durack's) be agreed to.
