Senator WATSON(4.34) —I wish to raise a similar matter to that which has been brought forward by Senator Georges. I acknowledge that there is increasing concern within the community about the extent of unauthorised telephone taps. My concern goes even further to what might be recognised as authorised telephone taps which may require a particular warrant or authority. My question to the Minister for Industry and Commerce (Senator Button) is: When a radiotelephone hook-up is used, for example between here and Brisbane-I think also there are lines to Melbourne using radio waves-is it possible that anyone, including representatives from foreign governments, using appropriate equipment can connect into ordinary telephone conversations without authority?
