Senator WALTERS(12.17) —I wonder whether the debate at the Committee stage could be adjourned until a later hour this day. I am sure that it would fit in with the plans of the Attorney-General (Senator Gareth Evans). I see no problem in doing that as far as the rest of the Parliament is concerned. I think it would be a good idea to adjourn the debate now. I feel, as Senator Durack said, that pressure has been put on us. Honourable senators are trying to cut short what they are attempting to say. To me it is an intolerable position. Like Senator Lewis, I have a fall-back position and amendments have been circulated in my name. I support the amendments moved by Senator Durack. I believe that is the line we should be taking. If Senator Durack's amendments are not acceptable only then will I move the amendments circulated in my name.
