Senator MESSNER(3.30) —I move:

That the Senate take note of the paper.

Unfortunately, we have not been provided with a copy of this report, but I would like to address some remarks to the work of the Social Welfare Policy Secretariat. Indeed, as shadow Minister for Social Security I have had a great deal of co-operation and support from that organisation in recent times in looking at the particular problems of social security. Certainly, the quality of work that emanates from that body is very high. We look forward to a very close co-operation with that organisation in the months and years ahead. Given the present state of debate about the level of retirement income systems and the quality of those systems, the Social Welfare Policy Secretariat will indeed have a great deal of input to the current reference on that subject before the Senate Standing Committee on Social Welfare. Members of that Committee-I am sure that Senators Elstob and Crowley, who are in the Senate at this time, would agree-we look forward to the Secretariat's submission with a great deal of interest.
