Senator GARETH EVANS (Attorney-General)(11.45) —by leave-I move:

Page 74, clause 42, after proposed sub-section 58P (2) insert the following sub -section:

'(3) A Parliamentary party shall not be de-registered under this section.'

Whatever the intention was so far as the registration of party names is concerned, it was not intended that the provision should have application to a parliamentary party in existence as a going concern. Senator Harradine made the point effectively yesterday in debate and this amendment is to accommodate that entirely legitimate concern. I commend it to the Committee accordingly.
