To the Honourable the President and members of the Senate in Parliament assembled:

A petition signed by 71 citizens of Australia, electors of Western Australia pray that:

During the forthcoming amendments to the Social Security Pensions Assets/Income tests, consideration be given to young disabled persons on Invalid Pensions who are handicapped to the extent that they cannot enjoy a normal life style.

Financial support can be forthcoming during the lifetime of the caring parents but there is constant worry that the continued assistance they afford may be threatened by the very normal process of a parental bequest. This ordinary family procedure could in some cases deprive the very basic pension entitlement to those who are unable to help themselves.

Your petitioners therefore pray: That consideration be given to the following: (1) Separate asset/income test for invalid/handicapped pensioners and (2) Financial limits be set higher.

And your petitioners as in duty bound will ever pray.
