Mr McCORMACK (Riverina) (13:44): The National Water Grid Advisory Body, headed by Chris Lynch, provided authoritative, balanced and timely advice. I want to thank Mr Lynch and other expert panel members for their commitment and input since establishing the body on 14 September 2020. CSIRO chief scientist Dr Cathy Foley, Jim Grayson, Roseanne Healy, Dr Stuart Khan, Sue Middleton, Peter Ryan and Elizabeth Stott all admirably fulfilled their roles.

Building water infrastructure, dams, pipelines and weirs is the key to unlocking Australia's economic future. If we are to grow the agriculture sector to $100 billion by 2030 then having the right water infrastructure in the right places will be critical to achieving that goal. If we are to better mitigate against even worsening flood situations then having the right infrastructure in the right places will be critical to achieving that goal. If we are to fund the right water infrastructure in the right places right now then having the right people to provide the right advice will also be critical. The national grid advisory panel comprised the right people. It had engineering, environmental, farming, irrigation and scientific experience and so much more. I am grateful for the work done and I pay tribute to each and every one of these panellists.
