Dr Southcott asked the Minister for Employment Participation, in writing, on 1 December 2008:

What is the forecast expenditure for: (a) Work for the Dole in the 2008-09 financial year; (b) the Work Experience Placement Program in the 2008-09 financial year; and (c) the Work Experience Program (WEP) in the (i) 2009-10, (ii) 2010-11, and (iii) 2011-12, financial years.

Mr Brendan O’Connor (Minister for Employment Participation) —The answer to the honourable member’s question is as follows:

(a)   The appropriation for Work for the Dole for the 2008-09 financial year is $192.554m.

(b)   The forecast expenditure for program costs under WEP for the 2008-09 financial year is $0.3m as published in the Portfolio Budget Statement 2006-07 on page 29.

(c)   The forecast expenditure for the Work Experience Program in the (i) 2009-10, (ii) 2010-11, and (iii) 2011-12, financial years cannot be provided as WEP will not continue as a distinct program under the new employment system but will continue as one of a range of Work Experience activities that job seekers may undertake.
