Mr SLIPPER (Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Finance and Administration) (4:51 PM) —Because of the hour of the day, my remarks will not be anywhere near as long as they should be, following that very excellent final speech from the honourable member for Indi. Very few of us actually get to choose exactly the time of our own departure from the parliament, but the member for Indi decided when he was going. He announced it some time ago, and that has enabled the Liberal Party to choose another candidate. He and I were elected in 1993. He has been a good friend to all of us and a source of very solid advice. On behalf of the government, I want to congratulate him on his long political career. I know that he will continue to serve our nation when he represents us at the United Nations in New York. We wish him well.
