Mr BRERETON (2:42 PM) —My question is addressed to the Prime Minister. Prime Minister, given that there is unlikely to be a solution to the Tampa situation without international cooperation, what initiatives are you taking to seek such an international solution? What steps have you taken within the UNHCR, the International Maritime Organisation or other international organisations to find a comprehensive international solution?

Mr HOWARD (Prime Minister) —I agree with the honourable member for Kingsford-Smith that the involvement of other countries and also the involvement of international organisations is clearly part of the solution. I can inform the honourable gentleman that quite a number of things have already been initiated by the government. I hope he will accept that it is just not appropriate at the moment for me to detail them; and when it is I will.
