Dr KEMP (Minister for Education, Training and Youth Affairs and Minister Assisting the Prime Minister for the Public Service) (12:16 PM) —The department has prepared a report on university completions. I think the final text of that is currently in preparation. When it is complete and available I will release it.

In relation to writing to the universities, I make the general point—and I am open to correction on this—that the agreements with the universities that this data would be provided in confidence were probably agreements reached under the previous government. This data has obviously been collected for some time—the base year that I am referring to is 1992—so I rather suspect that the agreement on confidentiality is one which the Labor Party concluded with the universities. If the Labor Party now no longer believes that that is appropriate, then I am quite happy to ask the universities whether they are prepared to withdraw the confidentiality agreement and allow the data to be published.
