Mr Murphy asked the Minister for Health and Aged Care, upon notice, on 1 November 2000:

Will he include the drugs Aricept and Exelon, used to treat Alzheimer's Disease, on the Pharmaceutical Benefits Schedule; if so, when; if not, why not.

Dr Wooldridge (Minister for Health and Aged Care) —The answer to the honourable member's question is as follows:

Aricept and Exelon have recently been approved for listing on the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) following a recommendation from the Pharmaceutical Benefits Advisory Committee (PBAC).

The PBS listings for these medicines were effective from 1 February 2001.
