To the Honourable the Speaker and Members of the House of Representatives assembled in Parliament.

The petition of certain citizens of Australia draws the attention of the House to the failure of the Commonwealth government to recognise the service and provide veteran's benefits to civilian nurses and medical teams sent to Vietnam (SEATO nurses) in times of military conflict.

Many of these nurses and medical team members are suffering from illnesses arising from their service and are not being provided with access to services and benefits under the Veteran's Entitlements Act, 1986.

Your petitioners therefore request the House immediately act to:

1. Recognise the service of these civilian nurses and members of medical teams; and

2. Make any changes to legislation or policy as may be required to provide access to these nurses and members of medical teams to health and other services on equal terms to military service personnel engaged in the same conflicts.

by Mr Martyn Evans (from 510 citizens).
