Ms MACKLIN (3:14 PM) —My question is to the Prime Minister. Prime Minister, why are you spending $15 million of taxpayers' money on private health insurance advertising, when this extra money would pay for 1,250 hip replacement operations or 1,000 heart bypass operations? Prime Minister, aren't you extending the time thousands of Australians wait in pain for treatment at our public hospitals by spending this money on advertising rather than the health system?

Mr HOWARD (Prime Minister) —That question, coming from the Labor Party, would have a little bit more credibility if we had not spent 28 per cent more in real terms on public hospitals than you did.
